hydrogen peroxide for sinus

If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried just about everything to get rid of your sinus infection. But have you ever tried using sea salt and hydrogen peroxide? I was initially skeptical, but it worked well for me! Here’s how to do it: combine a teaspoon of sea salt with half a cup of hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. Then mix well and use a dropper to put the solution into your nostrils. Hold your head back and keep your mouth closed so the solution doesn’t get into your throat. Breathe through your nose for about five minutes, then spit out the solution. Repeat twice a day until your sinus infection clears up. Give it a try – I promise you won’t be disappointed!

What Are Sinus Infections

Sinusitis, a sinus infection caused by an inflammation of the lining of the nose and eyes. Healthy sinuses are filled with air. But when they become blocked and filled with fluid, germs can grow and cause an infection. Symptoms include facial pain, tenderness, and swelling in the face and around the eyes with nasal congestion that can lead to intensive headaches or even fever. Chronic sinusitis is characterized by symptoms lasting longer than ten days and generally causes less fatigue, while acute sinusitis (a temporary nose infection) lasts shorter with fewer symptoms. A fever isn’t common in chronic cases but can occur in acute ones. Fortunately, sea salt and hydrogen peroxide for sinus remedies can destroy the viruses and bacteria found in colds. It does this by breaking into water and oxygen when it comes in contact with these infection agents so they no longer pose any danger to us.

Types of Sinus Infections

  • Acute sinusitis usually starts with cold-like symptoms such as a runny, stuffy nose and facial pain. It may start suddenly and last 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Subacute sinusitis usually lasts 4 to 12 weeks.
  • Chronic sinusitis symptoms last 12 weeks or longer.
  • Recurrent sinusitis happens several times a year.

The Mayo Clinic recommends you visit a doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms are present, which can indicate a serious infection:

  • High fever
  • Severe headaches
  • Stiff neck
  • Swelling or redness around your eyes
  • Confusion
  • Double vision or other vision changes

Can I Prevent Sinusitis?

There is no surefire way to prevent sinusitis. But some things might help.

  • Don’t smoke, and avoid other people’s smoke.
  • Wash your hands often, especially during cold and flu season, and try not to touch your face.
  • Stay away from things you know you’re allergic to. Talk to your doctor to see if you need prescription medicines, allergy shots, or other forms of immunotherapy.

Sinusitis is a common condition affecting all ages, with varying symptoms. It takes the expertise of family physicians to pediatricians for children; internists or allergists in adults; and otorhinolaryngologists (ENT doctors) when there is nasal congestion that doesn’t respond well to other treatments.
