Home should be the safe place that provides you with security and peace and allows you to detach from the day’s stress.
But, most of us don’t realize that we’re inviting the negativity accumulated throughout the day home with us each night — it penetrates the walls, furniture, ceiling, carpets, and objects.
For this reason, it’s important to learn to cleanse the negative energy regularly to prevent it from having a bad impact on you and your well-being.
Trained energy therapist and author of “How to Heal Yourself When No One Else Can,” Amy B. Scher, suggests 9 simple steps to clear your home and yourself of negative vibes to create a positive and welcoming space.
- Houseplants
Putting at least one houseplant in each room of your home will help you keep the energy clear. Scher recommends using lavender, eucalyptus, and white sage, since these are thought to have a greater cleansing effect, but any plant will due.
- Sprinkle Salt Around Your Home
Sprinkling salt around your home is thought a very effective energy cleansing technique. Scher suggests sprinkling salt on the carpet and vacuuming after an hour. She says this helps absorb negativity from your home.
As an alternate option, you can also fill bowls with salt and place them in the corners of individual rooms.
Lastly, cleanse yourself of negative energy with a salt bath. Dissolve 2 cups of sea salt in the water, and relax.
- Allow fresh air to flow
Cleanse bad energy by opening all windows and curtains in your home and allowing fresh air and sunlight to enter.
Scher also suggests the “shooing” technique that involves eliminating bad energy by “shooing” or “swishing” it with your hands, a broom or a large poster board. “Use your intention to help usher that energy out. You can even imagine it all leaving your house,” says Scher.
- Tourmaline Crystals
Scher says that black tourmaline help to absorb negativity and provide protection.
Scher recommends placing black tourmaline crystals around your home, especially in rooms filled with electronics as they tend to create chaotic energy in a home.
She also suggests using these crystals to protect yourself from picking up the negative energy around you. “I often put it in my pocket or purse while traveling. It’s great for sensitive people who seem to pick up on the energy around them and need some extra protection,” says Scher.
- Burn White Sage (or other incense)
Remove negative energy from your home by burning a smudge stick or a cone in every room.
Incense commonly used for this purpose include sandalwood, lavender, and sage.
- Sandalwood contains high-quality green prana, which is associated with deconstruction, breaking down, detoxification and digestion.
- Lavender incense contains blue-violet prana. Blue prana contains the properties of disinfection, inhibition, and is good for cooling and placating, while violet prana is an amalgamation of all the properties of the other five pranas. Lighter shades of violet are associated with the properties of regeneration and healing.
- Sage, on the other hand, contains green, blue and violet prana. Scher recommends burning white sage while walking around your house. You should make sure to swirl it in a counterclockwise rotation. She also recommends this technique for cleansing yourself. You should start at your feet and swirl the smoke around your body all the way up to your head.
- Room Cleansing Sprays
Scher recommends creating your own room spray with pure essential oils. She says this will effectively cleanse the negative energy of your home. Common essential oils to use for this purpose include lavender, patchouli, rose, and frankincense. Use this technique to cleanse yourself as well.
- Claim the Space
Often times, space can feel as though it’s contaminated with someone else’s energy and issues. To get rid of this feeling, Scher suggests claiming the space as your own. Simply walk around your home and say: “I take back this space. I choose to make this a positive place for me now! I love changing the energy of this space.”
- Play High-Frequency Music
Scher says that playing high vibration music will effectively clear negative energy.
- Rearrange Furniture
Rearranging the furniture in the home may have an emotional impact on you. “Feng shui is an ancient system of harmonizing and balancing an environment’s energy by specific arrangement or placement of items,” says Scher. “While there are rules of feng shui, I’ve found because we each have our own unique energy system, we can relate to our spaces very differently.” That is why Scher suggests moving things around and finding out what feels best to you.
If you feel your place needs to be refreshed with negative energy, give the above suggestions a try!
