One in three women can orgasm just from having their nipples stimulated, a doctor claims.
According to LA-based breast-cancer surgeon Dr. Kristi Funk, solely caressing the nipples during foreplay, with no stimulation ‘down there’, is enough to make one-third of women climax.
Some 20 percent of women have never been able to orgasm, Dr. Funk adds.
She, therefore, recommends women tell their partners where their erogenous zones are an experiment with ‘a little nipple play’.
Previous research suggests nipple and clitoral stimulation activate the same part of the brain.
‘A little nipple play helps you along’
Speaking on the TV show The Doctors, Dr. Funk said: ‘I would like to suggest a little nipple play to help you along’.
The panel of medics added women should get to know their own bodies and tell their partner where they want to be stimulated, which could even be their necks or ears.
A past study suggests the brains of aroused women ‘light up’ in the same area regardless of where on their bodies they are stimulated.
The researchers, from Rutgers University, New Jersey, asked 11 women aged between 23 and 56 years old to stimulate themselves while they lay inside a brain scanner.
The resulting images imply the areas of the brain that are affected are like a ‘cluster of grapes’ in the medial paracentral lobule, which is in the middle and at the top of the brain.
Lead researcher Barry Komisaruk said: ‘My speculation is that this could be the basis for many women saying that nipple stimulation is erotogenic because it stimulates the same area as the genitals.’
Having sex at least once a week slows aging in women
This comes after research released last July suggested having sex at least once a week slows aging in women – even if they do not enjoy being intimate.
Being active between the sheets increases the length of women’s telomeres, a study by the University of California, San Francisco found.
Telomeres ‘cap’ the end of DNA strands, with longer lengths being associated with slower aging, longer lifespans, and improved overall health.
Women’s telomeres lengthen with regular lovemaking regardless of whether they are sexually satisfied in their relationship, the research adds.
Researchers believe sex may aid aging in women by dampening stress and boosting their immune systems.
