While most people think of the dandelion as a pesky weed, you may be surprised to learn they’re actually incredibly healthy and are packed full of vitamins A, B, C, and D, as well as minerals, such as iron, potassium, and zinc.
Even more surprisingly, a recent study has confirmed that dandelions have tremendous potential when it comes to helping people who are suffering from cancer.
Chemoresistant melanoma is the most prevalent type of cancer in Americans aged 25 to 29. Currently, the most common treatment involves invasive surgery to remove the tumor and its borders, followed by immunotherapy – a treatment that doesn’t often work once the melanoma has metastasized.
However, this bleak outlook may soon change thanks to the results of a recent study conducted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Windsor in Ontario.
The study, led by Professor Siyaram Pandey, PhD., confirmed that dandelion root extract can effectively and safely treat cancer by forcing the human melanoma cells to kill themselves. In fact, researchers observed cancer cells disintegrating within 48 hours of treatment, while healthy cells remained unaffected.
